WORKSHOP TRACKS 2010
Building the Jobs Recovery features over 25 workshops organized around the 3 elements of a comprehensive jobs strategy. Special emphasis will be on practices in core industry sectors – energy & utilities, healthcare, manufacturing, construction, transit, goods movement, etc.
JOB CREATION STRATEGIES
This track of workshops profiles policies and practices that focus on job creation, or a net gain of jobs. Topics include: weatherization & building retrofits, infrastructure development, innovative capital investments, coordination of economic development incentives, accountability standards to ensure job creation, public service employment opportunities, and more.
LAYOFF RESPONSE
This track of workshops profiles policies and practices that focus on saving jobs, or layoff aversion. Topics include: strategies in averting plant closures, early warning of layoffs, alternatives to layoff (including Work Sharing), capital incentives to retool industries for energy efficiency or renewables, re-training incumbent workers with new green skills, etc.
WORKER TRAINING STRATEGIES
This track of workshops profiles policies and practices that focus on effective workforce training, including worker transition supports. Topics include: industry sector strategies, high road training partnerships, career pathways to good jobs, pathways out of poverty, serving dislocated workers, connecting with approved apprenticeship training programs, etc.
